Our Land and Habitats Business Unit currently has a need for a Civil Engineer on a fixed term contract of two years. The role will be based in Boora and will report to the Lead Civil Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the lean and timely delivery of technical solutions and services from within the team of engineers promoting cost effectiveness and continuous improvement.

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:

  • Support Land and Habitats Business Unit in the delivery of Civil and Structural Engineering Projects, Rehabilitation and Decommissioning projects and other projects as required. Support Civil Engineering Civil Lead in the delivery of cost effective and value adding engineering services and projects for the Land and Habitats Business Unit;
  • Ensuring that all assigned services and projects are delivered on time, within budget, in accordance with specifications and meeting all applicable regulatory and Health & Safety standards;
  • Co-ordinate all stakeholders throughout project and service delivery including Operations, Health & Safety, Compliance and other engineering disciplines to ensure that project and service key performance indicators are achieved;
  • Develop standardised civil engineering designs or alternative methods, work practices or designs to solve technical problems and provide cost effective solutions to meet Energy BU’s requirements to improve productivity and cost
  • Continually improve and develop designs by monitoring technological developments to ensure the most cost effective and appropriate solutions are proposed. Identify and select cost effective and appropriate specifications and construction methodologies to achieve the project outcomes;
  • Prepare technical project, tender and contract documentation to monitor, control and reduce cost, monitor progress and update
    stakeholders. Appraise and monitor all elements of design, manufacture, processing, construction, operation and maintenance to minimise life cycle costs; Ensure all designs, associated specifications and construction methodologies meet all relevant codes of practice, legislation and regulatory requirements;
  • Supervise construction of engineering works and contractor activities on site, witness and record tests, ensuring works are completed in accordance with contract documentation. Record and document baseline data, work in progress and quality of materials to ensure accurate reliable information is available to resolve any contractual issues that may arise and ensuring that any contractual obligations are achieved to the benefit of Bord na Móna; Monitor and analyse project progress, individual and overall cost elements to ensure that any departures from key deliverables are identified, recorded and appropriately remedied
  • Enable sufficient, timely and appropriate information exchange between all stakeholders throughout project / service development and delivery to ensure that deliverables and KPI’s are understood and any risks or opportunities are monitored and reviewed to achieve the best project / service results.
  • All employees are expected to co-operate fully with all provisions taken by the company for ensuring Health and Safety, and Welfare of co-employees and members of the public using the premises
  • Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team’s, objectives.

The Person:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes:

  • Level 8 Civil Engineering Degree
  • 5 years relevant experience. 
  • Civil engineering design, contract documentation, construction costing and measurement, project
    management capabilities, bog/peat drainage design and implementation.
  • Proficient in digital capturing processing and manipulation of survey data, preparation and presentation of AutoCAD drawings would be an advantage but is not required.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, GIS and Surveying.
  • A full clean driving licence is required for the role. 
  • Excellent communications skills. 
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite including excel.
