Put the green back in Christmas with our recycling tips

We all know how much waste can build up around Christmas time, but it's something that you can easily prevent. This year, avoid the headache by taking a look at the Top 5 Green Christmas Tips from AES - you'll be feeling more festive in no time!

Tip #1

When you hit the stores this year for your Christmas shopping remember to bring your own cloth bag for all your purchases as shopping bags create a lot of waste.  For larger boxes that are difficult to carry ask for a role of tape and wrap it around the box create a handle so you will not need a large bag

Tip #2

Wrapping Christmas gifts doesn’t have to mean using tonnes of paper. This year you could try re-useable gift bags or if you are feeling creative, use festive fabric to wrap your gifts. Fabric will look great and can be reused

Tip #3

Get crafty with Christmas gifts, whether it’s home baked cup cakes, a hand knitted scarf or a home made candle. Craft gifts are unique, special and better value as well as being kinder to the environment

Tip #4

When Christmas is over and the holiday guests have left, remember to be smart about the disposal of your Christmas tree and other holiday waste.  Remember to recycle your tree or use it for mulch and firewood.  Go through all the wrapping paper and save what can be reused and recycle the rest.  If you entertained over the holidays, collect all empty bottles and jars and bring to the bottle bank.

Consider a New Year's Resolution to recycle from more areas in your home i.e. the bathroom shampoo bottles, make up containers etc.
