Blue bin FAQs

Why does AES offer a blue bin?

Your blue bin is for recyclable items only. Using your recycling bin reduces the volume of waste sent to landfill and plays an important part in preserving the quality of the environment.

What can I put in the blue bin?

  • Paper (Newsprint, Pamphlets, Envelopes, Books, Magazines, Paper Bags)
  • Cardboard (Cereal / biscuit Boxes, Cardboard Packaging)
  • Food Tins (Steel)
  • Drink Cans (Aluminium)
  • Tetra-Pak (Milk, Soup & Juice Cartons)
  • Plastic Bottles (PET) (HDPE) (PP) (Mineral, Water and Detergent bottles)

What cannot be put in the blue bin

  • No Glass / Ceramics
  • No Plastic Bags / Plastic Film
  • No Green Waste (Kitchen or Garden)
  • No Clothes / Shoes
  • No Food
  • No Aerosols
  • No Meat Wrappings
  • No Nappies / Sanitary Items

What happens if I put the wrong items in my recycle bin?

Please remember to clean all items before placing them in your bin. Putting dirty or unsuitable items in the blue bin could contaminate the entire load contents. Your bin will be rejected if it has the incorrect items in it and we will place a contamination sticker on your bin. If this does occur, please remove all of the unsuitable items and your bin will be emptied on your next blue bin date.

What does AES do with the material that is collected in the blue bins?

The contents of the blue bin are brought to our Material Recovery Facility for further treatment. Please click here for further details.
