The Innovation Centre was established in 2008 with the objective of promoting innovative behaviour, to facilitate cross company opportunities and to identify innovative opportunities through research institutions and industrial partners.
The Centre aims to help the company generate a sustainable future in line with the new strategic business direction of a ‘New Contract with Nature’.
Innovation will play a key role in developing new environmentally responsible products and services in order to increase the AES and Bord na Mona customer base. Bord na Mona and AES are uniquely positioned to prepare for the low carbon society of the future, through improving existing climate friendly waste management technologies and devising those of tomorrow.
Innovation in AES focuses on improving waste management systems that will add value for the customer and open new possibilities for sustainable development. Throughout the company, innovation team leaders head operational satellite innovation teams. Team leaders encourage new ideas generated from both employees and customers to improve business performance and customer satisfaction.
AES recognises the potential for waste as a valuable resource and is committed to developing an innovative waste management strategy integrating the best of available technologies.
A marked shift from landfill towards the EU’s waste hierarchy - which prioritises waste prevention, followed by re-use, recycling and recovery through sustainable development - is recognised as a key objective for the Innovation Centre and AES.
